Sara’s Sweater

The beginningSara needs a new summer sweater.  She was sick last week and on the second day, she and I looked through Nana’s knitting books and we found one that she liked.  Of course, it is a baby sweater and the largest size it comes in is a 12 Month.  It is really “fancy” and just what the little girl needs.  I hauled out some yarn from my cache and knit up a swatch.  Yes, I think this will work out just fine.  Now, a few days later I have the bottom lace complete and am heading up to the armholes.  I find it relatively easy to convert a small pattern to a larger one, as long as you test the gauge and also how many stitches one needs to do a pattern plus a couple of stitches on each side for seams, you can take the total number of inches and multiply by the number of stitches you knit per inch and get the number of minimum stitches you need.  Then divide the number of stitches your pattern calls for into the total number you just calculated if there is a remainder add enough to cover another pattern and your seam stitches.  Once you have established the base numbers you can convert all other needs by using ratios.  Can you tell that I was a math major in College?
